Johnston, who made his name as an explorer and a colonial administrator in East Africa, also wrote sequels to Dombey and Son, (The Gay-Dombeys 1919), and George Bernard Shaw's play Mrs. Warren's Profession, (Mrs. Warren's Daughter, 1920).
