¶First published in 1911. Ethel Margaret Macdonald, née Gladstone, was a leading feminist, suffragist, social campaigner, and founder member of the Women's Labour League. From 1896 she was married to Ramsay Macdonald, but would not see him become the UK's first Labour prime minister, as she died from sepsis in 1911 aged just 41.
