¶Hopkins, 1836-1904, was a poet, author (of one novel), lobbyist and campaigner, who turned her attention towards the 'social purity' movement in the late nineteenth century. In 1883 she helped found the White Cross Army, which encouraged men to treat women with honour and respect.
