¶Female perspectives on such topics as marriage, religion, education, and the death penalty. Winifred Ashton, 1888-1965, was an English novelist and playwright, who wrote under the pseudonym Clemence Dane. She was known for her outrageous sense of humour, and delighted in using foul language in inappropriate situations. She also wrote screenplays, and received an Academy Award in 1946 for the drama Perfect Strangers.
