¶Prideaux 45. Unfinished at the time of Stevenson's death. 'Though but a fragment, "Weir of Hermiston" affords sufficient evidence to show that it would have been its author's greatest work.' The novel ends prematurely with an unfinished sentence dictated on the morning of his death: 'it seemed unprovoked, a wilful convulsion of brute nature...' J. Storer Clouston was an Orcadian historian and novelist. His novel The Spy in Black is noteworthy as the basis of the first film collaboration between Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.
