The first appearance of Korolenko in English. Korolenko, 1853-1921, was a prolific short-story writer, journalist, and political dissident. He railed against social injustice, and was vociferous in his opposition to the Tsarist regime. For failing to swear allegiance to Alexander III he was exiled to Siberia in 1881, an experience which informed much of his best-known and most poignant writing. Line: Korolenko 4.
