The Golden Age.

GRAHAME, Kenneth. The Golden Age. 19th thousand. John Lane, The Bodley Head. 1907
Half title, 4pp ads. Uncut and partially unopened in orig. yellow buckram, blocked in dark blue; sl. rubbed, spine darkened.

¶First published in 1895. Grahame began publishing short stories in various London periodicals in the 1880s; in 1893 a number of these stories were collected and published under the title Pagan Papers. The Golden Age - a collection of stories which first appeared in the National Observer - was published two years later. The stories are notable for the recurring theme of children at odds with adults who have forgotten what it's like to be young, and the book was well received with Algernon Charles Swinburne calling it 'too praiseworthy for praise'.
