¶James Adderley, 1861-1942, Christian Socialist and an original member of the Oxford University Dramatic Society. He worked as an 'evangelical Catholic' in the poor parishes of London, particularly the Oxford House Settlement in Bethnal Green, and this is reflected in Stephen Remarx - a novel rejected by 20 publishers, but which reached a 12th edition in 1904.
